Do you know why Tuscany leather is the best in the world for your outdoor gear? The short answer is that the Tuscans, quite frankly, are the best and the most skilled leather craftsmen. There is no other area in the world that can match the quality, and this is largely due to the very skilled artisans, the quality hides used in their products, and their dye-making process.

One of the reasons Tuscany leather hides are superior to others is that they use all-natural items such as vegetable and plant-based extracts to dye their leather and this results in a much stronger and longer-lasting leather product.  This natural process (vegetable tanning) takes much longer to complete as it is mostly done by hand which can take as long as two months.

Unlike Tuscany leather, almost 90% of the world’s leather outdoor gear is tanned by chrome (mineral tanning).  Large mass-market factory-produced products, often use this chrome chemical-based process, to dye their hides.   Chrome is a solution that is mixed with chemicals, acids, and salts (chromium sulfate).  Large scale factories prefer this method as it is a shorter and less costly leather tanning process than vegetable tanning.  It also costs a lot less, however, the lower quality is readily apparent as well.

Below, five reasons that Tuscan Leather is the very best for your outdoor gear.

  1. It’s a high-quality material. As we’ve stated over and over – Tuscany leather is a durable and well-made material. A great deal of craftsmanship is put into making Tuscany leather products with the highest standards.
  2. Tuscany Leather is made to last. When compared to other types of leather, Tuscany leather is the most long-lasting. It can withstand everyday wear and tear, with most nicks and scratches being easily wiped away. If you are looking for the most durable products, always look for those leather goods that have a lifetime tome or long guarantee.
  3. It Is One of a kind. Vegetable-tanned Tuscany leather has a truly one of a kind appearance. The marks on the hides are not imperfections – they are the result of the natural tanning process and give a very distinctive look. No two naturally tanned items ever look alike!
  4. It’s Timeless Look. This material practically drips style and sophistication, and it continues to be, one of the most well-loved materials in fashion design.
  5. Maintaining is easy. Constantly cleaning your gear can be a chore. Tuscany leather, on the other hand, reduces drudgery. In fact, aging only adds to the beauty and uniqueness of Tuscany leather. It can be easily cleaned on with a damp cloth form from time to time but isn’t always necessary.
