Crakote continues to grow in popularity every single year, especially in the outdoor field when it relates to durability. But what is it? And why is it so popular? Cerakote is a special coating that is applied onto materials that helps to protect it and increase its durability. This ceramic based finish is usually applied to things like metal, plastic, polymers and wood, and helps to increase the material’s corrosion resistance, wear resistance, strength, and overall hardness.

Applying Cerakote

Applying cerakote properly takes a skilled hand to do, because the wrong move and it can come out uneven and cause problems depending on the item that is being finished. The coating is intended to be applied as smoothly and evenly as possible, then cured with heat. Metal items are usually cured at 250 degrees, while things like plastic and polymer are cured from 150-180 degrees.

Increased Popularity

Cerakote is so popular because of how easily it protects the item it is applied to. For years, there were only a few ways to protect your firearms from the elements, and even the smallest bit of moisture could rust a blued steel of a gun. Everyone knows that rust is the biggest enemy to firearm function and accuracy, so there had to be a better way to protect them. Cerakote was the answer to the problem!

Cerakote does a fantastic job of protecting whatever item it is applied to. The ceramic and polymer material can attach itself and be applied to almost anything, and increase its ability to resist things like wear, water, and dirt. Applied to firearms, this keeps them functioning properly and protected from just about anything you may run across in the field.

Advantages of Cerakote

If you were to watch the process of an item being cerakoted, it almost appears as a wet substance similar to paint. It is much more than this, however, and is made up of super durable ceramic materials. Ceramic is very hard, and resistant to wear. It is so strong, in fact, that only certain acids are capable of altering it. Thanks to ceramic coatings, supersonic speeds and space travel have been made possible!

Bad weather is often the culprit for things messing up your firearm and outdoor gear, whether that is acidic rain, dirt, or even things like ultraviolet radiation. Thanks to the cerakoting process, you can take your gun in the field and not have to worry about excessive wear or damage from the elements. It’s no wonder why so many people are turning to cerakote in order to protect their valuable possessions, since it truly is the best at its job!
